The Eric Liddell Community is looking for volunteer Kitchen Assistants to join the team.

Location: 15 Morningside Road, Edinburgh, EH10 4DP
Hours: Monday-Friday, 11am-2pm (Flexible days available)

About the Role
Are you passionate about food and making a difference in your local community? The Eric Liddell Community is looking for enthusiastic Volunteer Kitchen Assistants to join our fabulous Kitchen team. You will play a vital role in supporting our full-time Chef to provide wholesome, nutritious meals that bring people together and combat social isolation.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Supporting Day Care: Assist our Chef with meal preparation for our sector leading Dementia Day Care service, helping to provide a high-quality, two-course lunch for our clients.
  • Cafe Support: Help prepare simple, healthy lunch orders (such as soups and sandwiches) for our community café.
  • Community Events: Provide essential kitchen support for our range of community events, including lunchtime concerts and fundraisers.
  • General Assistance: Help maintain a clean and safe kitchen environment through basic food prep and cleaning duties.

Who We Are Looking For

  • A friendly, compassionate individual who enjoys working as part of a team.
  • Reliable and punctual, with an interest in hospitality or community work.
  • Advantageous but not essential: Home baking skills and a valid Food Hygiene Certificate
  • Note: As you will be working within a care environment, a PVG Check will be required (which we will arrange).

Why Volunteer With Us?

  • Gain valuable experience in a professional kitchen led by a trained Chef.
  • Join a team dedicated to Eric Liddell’s legacy of care, compassion, and community.
  • Make a tangible impact on the lives of people living with dementia and their carers in Edinburgh.
  • We provide training and ongoing support.

Training & Support
Volunteers will receive a comprehensive induction, including Food Hygiene, First Aid, Fire Safety and Evacuation protocols. Ongoing support and task-specific training will also be provided.

Time Commitment & Flexibility
Our core hours are Monday to Friday, 9am – 4pm. We are looking for volunteers who can commit to a regular schedule; coverage during the lunchtime period (11am – 2pm) is particularly valuable. Occasional flexibility to provide cover for staff sickness or leave is highly appreciated but not required.
