About the Role
The Eric Liddell Community is a local care charity and community hub in the Southwest of Edinburgh delivering a range of services throughout the city. Founded in 1980 in memory of Eric Liddell, the 1924 Olympic 400m gold medallist, our mission is to be at the heart of the community, enhancing health and wellbeing and improving people’s lives. Welcoming over 7,000 visitors a month, The Eric Liddell Community is a vibrant Hub with café, and Specialist Dementia and Care Charity.
We are seeking professional, personable, and dedicated volunteers to join our Front-of-House team. As the first point of contact for our busy community hub, you will play a vital role in ensuring a warm welcome for our clients, carers, and visitors.
If you thrive in a bustling environment and enjoy interacting with a diverse range of people, this is an excellent opportunity to support an independent charity providing essential community services.
Key Responsibilities
- Front Desk Representation: Act as the primary point of reference for all visitors, directing them to specific activities and services within the building.
- Communication Management: Professionally manage the main switchboard by answering calls, forwarding enquiries, and ensuring accurate email correspondence.
- Administrative Support: Monitor and manage the reception area, ensuring a high standard of service and a friendly welcome.
Requirements
- Interpersonal Skills: A friendly, patient, and outgoing demeanour with a commitment to excellent customer service.
- Technical Proficiency: Comfortable using Microsoft Outlook, Word, and multi-line telephone systems.
- Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills to handle enquiries effectively.
- Reliability: A proactive approach with the ability to maintain a calm presence in a high-traffic environment.
Training & Support
Volunteers will receive a comprehensive induction, including Fire Safety and Evacuation protocols, led by our Senior Front Desk Administrator and Senior Caretaker. Ongoing support and task-specific training will also be provided.
Time Commitment & Flexibility
Core hours are Monday to Friday, 9am – 4pm. We are looking for volunteers who can commit to a regular schedule; coverage during the lunchtime period (12pm – 2pm) is particularly valuable. Occasional flexibility to provide cover for staff sickness or leave is highly appreciated but not required.
