Christmas can be an especially lonely time, especially this year when so many people are struggling to afford warmth and light in this cost-of-living crisis. That’s why we are launching our Christmas appeal, this December.
We all need community and companionship, especially at Christmas. But for so many in our city, Christmas is an especially lonely time, not least those living with dementia and with caring responsibilities.
Our services are a lifeline for everyone who attends, providing a community for people to rely on. One of our service users recently shared that they would ‘be seriously lonely if [they] didn’t attend’ sharing that ‘It helps to fill the hole in my life.’ We need your help, this Christmas, to continue providing these critical services.
Over the next 25 years the number of people in Edinburgh living with Dementia is set to double, touching more lives with loneliness and isolation. It can take up to 12 months to receive a diagnosis from the NHS leaving a staggering number of people waiting to receive specialised support. This not only affects those on their dementia journey, but their family and loved ones too. That’s why we are so grateful to you and our supporters for helping us to fight to end this critical gap for so many people, this Christmas and beyond!
This Christmas, Your Help is Needed More Than Ever
Here’s how a donation today could make a difference this Christmas:
• £100 could provide 10 people with a hot meal and a warm place to go through our weekly Wellbeing Lunches.
• £50 could provide 6 people with a place to sing, dance and recapture memories through our dementia friendly Community Music Programme.
• £25 could provide an unpaid carer with 2 hours of companionship and support, paving the way for lifelong friendships through our Befriending Service.
